Danforth Educational Leadership Program

student in classroomThe UW Danforth Educational Leadership Program was launched in 1988 with the mission of leveraging innovative learning approaches to develop equity-driven, learning-focused and highly collaborative principals and program administrators. Over the last three decades, Danforth has grown and evolved into one of the most widely respected programs of its kind in the country.

Certifications and Master’s Degree Offerings

Danforth is a four-quarter program for educators seeking their Residency Principal and/or Residency Program Administrator certification. For those who don’t already possess a master’s degree, Danforth also offers a Master of Education (M.Ed.), earned concurrently by completing additional courses during the program.

The degree is offered by the UW College of Education, which in 2021 was ranked No. 13 overall and No. 12 for educational administration by U.S. News & World Report. This self-sustaining, fee-based program is administered in partnership with UW Continuum College.

Performance Guarantee

Danforth stands behind the quality of the program with a unique performance guarantee. Launched in 2013, this guarantee means that Danforth graduates are certain to have the knowledge and skills to step into leadership positions and thrive in today’s challenging education environment.

If a Danforth graduate needs additional guidance and help in putting the program’s core competencies into practice, we will provide follow-up support: networking, additional professional development, coaching or assistance targeted at individual needs. The support will be provided at no cost to the alumni or their schools or districts.

We also provide one-to-one coaches for graduates who begin a principalship within the first year of graduation. Learn more about the careers of Danforth graduates.
